Sensory Snow Activities
Snow can be such a fun sensory material to use in the classroom, there are so many fun ways to incorporate snow into meaningful sensory and play activities. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Do you want to build a snowman?
- This is by far the simplest way to play with snow in the classroom. Just give the kids a tray full of snow, with the rule of the snow must stay in the tray! Let the kids build snowmen, towers, mini forts for figurines the only limit is their imagination.
- Snow Painting
- Give students a tray of snow and let them paint it with various brushes. Regular paint works well but my favorite way to paint snow is to mix up some snow paint.
- Snow Paint- Mix food dye and water in small cups. *Bonus for those kids that may put sensory materials in their mouth it is non-toxic.
- Dramatic Play
- Give students toys to play with on a craft tray, some that work well are:
- Dollhouse/ plastic people
- Cars
- Arctic Animals
- Fake Snow
- For those of you who live in warm climates, snow may not be readily available but you can replicate these activities with fake snow.
- Sensory Snow Recipe-In a large bowl mix 2 1/2 cups of baking soda with 1/2 a cup of white hair conditioner.
